TUNING IN to the Body
Body-Wisdom in Communication and Conflict Management
TUNING IN creates wisdom in the body. (Jan Watson)
In this workshop you will ground conflict resolution in the body,
manage pressures with body-wisdom, and learn listening skills for practicing
body-wisdom under pressure.
Research suggests that body language may comprise most of our understanding of one another…. So why do we fight over words? (Picture by Jan Watson)
When we hear something that we disagree with, we are predisposed to reply with contrary words that oppose and separate, laying the groundwork for conflict.
¥ TUNING IN can help you develop:
- Skills for listening to body-wisdom centers,
- Reduced pressure-driven mistakes and repeats,
- Skills for transforming opposition to inclusion,
- and it provides practice listening under pressure.
TUNING IN reveals common embodied predispositions to responding to pressure that we all live with, knowingly or not. Accessing body wisdom reveals new options that apply also in word wars. It could take years to figure this out by arguing.
Tuning In is about playful response to all pressures.
Tuning In promotes breathing and encourages grace under pressure.
Tuning In teaches centering, grounding and extension.

So why do we say TUNING IN? It’s because we're practicing listening skills. Body-wisdom is spatial, and our sensory center for spatial navigating is in our ears. The vestibular organ is in the inner-ear. Sensing ground, center and balance in movement is a form of inner-listening.
And to what are we attuning? We are listening to ourselves, sensing our body-weight or grounding, which is our relationship with the planet. Through ground and breath we can attune to our natural rhythms of release and extension. Such listening practices develop the awareness of our own core, the core of the planet, and beyond.
